If you need to recover data on hard disk and your device has a physical failure, it is important that:


  • Do not attempt to retrieve information using any type of data recovery tool.


  • DO NOT UNTAIL THE DEVICE under any circumstances.


In both cases the damage may be irreversible, and the magnetic surface where your precious data is recorded could turn illegible.


A hard disk is composed of mechanical parts, with a millimeter adjustment between them. A failure of any of these pieces means that your information cannot be accessed.

* Due to the unstoppable advance of technology, devices with a certain age are discontinued by the manufacturer, which is why there are cases that we do not have the necessary parts for recovery in our stock; in these cases, it is necessary to wait for the acquisition of certain parts to realize the recovery of the data.


The most common physical failures are:

  • Head block failure.

  • Thermal decompensation.

  • Engine lock

  • Electronic fault.

  • Alignment of the head block failed.


How to determine if the damage is physical:

  • There is an apparent problem on the outside of the device, such as visible damage to chips and / or connectors.

  • The device is not listed in the Windows Disk Manager, the Windows Device Manager or in the system BIOS.

  • The device remains silent (no sounds or sensation of movement / vibration) when turned on.

  • The device emits loud "clack clack" noises when accessing it.

  • A typical pattern would be the repetition of clac-pause-clac-pause-clac, followed by the sound of the device stopping and then turning again.

  • Windows usually crashes.

* The manipulation or attempt to recover the hard drive by unqualified personnel can totally prevent data recovery.



If the sound of your hard disk is similar to one of those shown below or if you notice that the sound emitted by it is not normal, please do not turn it on again, if the hard disk plates receive any damage there is a possibility that the Data cannot be recovered.


The data on your hard drive is organized through logical structures of a file system. Something similar to a book, in which you can access the information contained in it by accessing the index. This process is controlled by the operating system, which has access to these logical structures.


If these structures were damaged, due to a failure of the operating system, or the attack of a virus, it wouldn't be able to access the information. The physical device would work correctly, but the loss of these logical structures would make access to information impossible.


The most common logical failures are:


  • Voluntary or involuntary formatting / deletion;

  • Virus attacks;

  • System locks;

  • File structure corruption;

  • Sabotages of disgruntled employees;

  • Hard Disk cannot be recognized BIOS;

  • Hard drive capacity is wrongly recognized;

  • The hard disk is recognized as capacity 0;

  • The hard drive works slowly;

  • Etc.


Usually, the cause of a logical failure cannot be determined, except for errors made by the user and in cases when the device is disconnected incorrectly, it is still possible to specify the main reasons that can cause a logical failure.


  • User Errors:​

    • In most cases, the user deletes the data by mistake or the device was formatted by mistake.


  • Factory restoration or reinstallation of the operating system:

    • Another common situation is when the user uses the factory restore (usually on laptops) or the re-installation of Windows in a quick format, sometimes a backup is not done previously.

  • Accidental Deletion:

    • ​In NTFS The chances of recovering a file after accidental deletion are high, in other file systems the chances are lower, and generally, the probability decreases as we use the hard drive and if more information is recorded it can overwrite the area in which the original file was found.


  • Formatted by mistake:

    • There are 2 types of formats; fast and complete format. After a quick format the data can still be recovered if data is copied to the device the percentage of recoverable data decreases.




The manipulation or attempt to recover the hard disk by unqualified personnel may totally prevent data recovery. It is very important to contact the first fault symptom with Data Recovery, Recovery of all types of data since an erroneous intervention can aggravate the situation, making any recovery attempt useless.
